MatthewEat Mobile — a mobile app for mindful nutrition

Scaling the MatthewEatBot service into a full mobile ecosystem: the AI nutrient tracking technology moves to smartphones with Kotlin Multiplatform, and widgets make logging a meal instant.

Project objective

After the successful launch of the Telegram mini app (MatthewEatBot) the service needed a wider presence and deeper integration with mobile operating systems. The main goal was an app that lets people keep a food diary without opening a messenger, while sharing one database and one processing logic with the bot. We had to design convenient authentication and onboarding, and make data entry as fast as possible through widgets, lowering the barrier to daily use.

Project features

The main technical decision was Kotlin Multiplatform, which lets iOS and Android share business logic and guarantees identical behaviour of the AI algorithms on both platforms. The project supports seamless migration: a user can start the day logging meals through the bot and finish it reviewing analytics in the app. Special attention went to mobile widgets that turn logging food into a one-tap action.

Solution

The team designed a clean, light interface. We built onboarding and authentication screens that instantly sync the user’s current progress from Telegram. The heart of the app is the diary screen with interactive calorie and macronutrient rings, where meals are grouped automatically by category with a detailed breakdown. To simplify data entry radically we created a home screen widget: it activates the microphone so the user can dictate what they ate, after which the AI core recognises products and portions and logs them without any manual search.

Results

MatthewEat became a genuinely cross-platform product available both as a web app and as native applications. KMP optimised development and support costs while keeping the interface fast. Widgets and native notifications significantly improved retention, because logging a meal now takes seconds. The project shows how the evolution from chatbot to mobile app makes health tracking a natural part of everyday life.
